Kylie Minogue is hands down one of the best performers in the world. With a music career spanning more than two decades, it baffled everyone why she never came to North America. I’m not talking about just the United States, but Canada, Mexico as well. This was all changed with the announcement of her “From You, For Me” tour. The tour started off with 5 dates announced and quickly spread to 9 shows with fans demanding more.
I had the chance to attended night one of three shows at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The day started off super early with an 8am wake up time. Walked around the city and got to the venue to see who was outside already. After scoping that out, breakfast was next before the big hurdle of the day. And that would be waiting in line. Starting about 9:30am, my friend and I waited in the semi-cold NY weather being about 10th or so in line While making friends with everyone from a dad and his daughter to a couple of guys and more, there wasn’t really a dull moment while in line. As the time grew on, the wait till doors was shorter. What started off as doors at 7pm, was moved back to 6:30 to the delight of the fans.
As the security came out and got the barricades and lines ready, the tension grew. Finally they started to let us in. As I was quickly patted down, I sprinted into the venue and got my place against the barricade at the stage!! This was it. This was worth all the hours of waiting in line. And it was so close. As a DJ played some songs, as the rest of the crowd stumbled in, my patience was getting thin. Finally after about an hour or so, the venue went black and the curtain was being raised. Soon the music broke into “Light Years“. As the song was going, slowly, ascending from the top of the venue was Kylie on a giant skull. Once the song concluded, “Speakerphone” came on. This was the remix version and it was great.
After that was one of my favorite songs of hers ever, “Come Into My World“. They didn’t play the slow version, which I hate, but they played the true version which made me so happy. “In Your Eyes” was next followed by a medley of “Shocked“, “What Do I Have To Do?” and “Spinning Around“. After this, she played a new song coming from her new album. “Better Than Today“.
As the night went, as each song that played, with every Kylie costume change, I became just more excited and happy. Playing more of my favorite songs and just being an amazing performer, this show was amazing. I would go more into details about songs and what not, but I will just post the setlist and you can visit the pictures. They’ll speak more than I ever could. All I know, is that I cannot wait to see her again and it will be hard to top this show. :]
